Following the Hamas atrocities of October 7 perpetrated against Israel, the ensuing war in Gaza has elicited strong emotion and discussion within the Jewish community on strengthening Israeli security, safely returning the hostages, and conditions for an eventual ceasefire. Each of us has a unique view of the relationship between these fraught goals. Some of us prioritize one goal over another. Others view the goals as inextricably linked. Regardless of viewpoint, we are all deeply affected. We can find community in getting together to be heard and share our ideas in a safe, polite space without judgment or debate. Kol Yisrael is hosting a moderated discussion on Sunday, December 17 from 11 am till noon in the Library and on zoom. We will begin promptly (please arrive a few minutes early to take your seat) at 11:00 with our simple ground rules for safe discussion. The moderator will ensure that anyone who wishes to speak has the opportunity and that we maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Run for Their Lives is a global movement founded by Israelis in the Bay Area. Their mission is to raise awareness for the hostages held in Gaza. Each week, groups worldwide come together for family-friendly walks or runs lasting 18 (ח"י) minutes. Participants wear red shirts and carry flags representing the 28 nationalities of the hostages. So far there are 70+ groups across the globe, with new ones joining daily. Our Palo Alto group walks every Sunday at 12:30pm.
