Despite Biblical prohibitions against consulting with ghosts, diviners, sorcerers, one who casts spells, or who inquires of the dead, our tradition is full of magic - magical formulas, amulets, spells, divination, and more. We will explore what differentiates Jewish Magic from other magic, the types of magic found most commonly in our tradition, texts and ritual objects associated with the performance of magic, the historical contexts for the practice of magic, and what it has to do with the rabbis of the Talmud and the Baal Shem Tov, among other great leaders of the Jewish people.
While it is not necessary to attend all five sessions, it will be a richer experience if you do!
