Join Rabbi Josh Warshawsky for an evening of Shirah Lishmah - singing for its own sake. What does it feel like to gather together and sing out? There is an energy that is created when we sing together. We’ll immerse ourselves in some of the new melodies we will share this weekend and start to prepare and make our way towards Shabbat.

There is a lot of pomp and circumstance in our Torah service, filled with fanfare and celebration! What is really happening in the words that we sing as we take out and read from our sacred text? What changes when we hear, feel, and sing these words in a new way?

Hebrew is an incredibly intentional and beautiful language. In Hebrew a song is a “shir”. But the songs we sing on Shabbat are called something different. A song we sing on Shabbat is called a “zemer” (זמר). If you read that word backwards you find the word “remez” (רמז), a hint. On Shabbat a song is a hint of something more, something holy, something unique. Join us all morning and even after kiddush as we continue to lift up Shabbat with song.
