Taylor Swift Fifth Friday

Taylor Swift Fifth Friday Shabbat Service: August 30, 2024

Etz Chayim’s upcoming August 30 Fifth Friday Shabbat service features the music of Taylor Swift, who at age 34 is already among the most popular and successful singer-songwriters of all time. Swift was born in 1989 and named after singer-songwriter James Taylor, who was among the featured singer-songwriters in Etz Chayim’s Both Sides Now Shabbat service in 2021. Taylor (Swift) has released eleven studio albums and subsequently re-recorded four of them.

Our Fifth Friday team is very mindful that the themes of our services often have been most accessible to the baby boomer generation. We desire to create more services that appeal to each generation of Etzniks and that have cross-generational appeal. We are delighted that for the first time our singers and players for this service include religious school students.  Much as Taylor Swift has created the Eras Tour to bring in music from each of her personal artistic eras, we foresee our Fifth Friday services bringing in music from many eras as well.

Familiarizing Yourself With the Music We Will Use

Our Fifth Friday team has curated 11 original Taylor Swift songs that will be used in place of traditional prayers, as alternative ways of approaching the prayers. Two other songs will be used as the tune for L’cha Dodi and Adon Olam.

Below are playlists of all 13 songs in Spotify and YouTube. There are also recordings made of L’Cha Dodi sung to the tune of Blank Space and Adon Olam sung to the tune of Style.

Enjoy!
