Israeli Supreme Court Presentation and Etz Community Dialog (Library & Online)
Sunday, March 12, 2023 • 19 Adar 5783
10:00 AM - 12:30 PMIsrael is in the midst of an internal political struggle over the authority and future of its Supreme Court. Many in the Etz community, as across the American Jewish community, have heartfelt concerns on what this means. Some of us would like to learn more about the history of the Court, how Israel arrived at the current situation, and how the Court's authority may change. Some of us would like to share our views in a safe environment without fear of "saying the wrong thing" or getting into contentious debate, while hearing a range of perspectives.
Etz Chayim is pleased to welcome Guy Miasnik, an Israeli living in the Bay Area who studies Israel's politics and offers historical explanations and contemporary context surrounding Israel's Supreme Court. Guy will provide an interactive presentation and address questions to provide a factual understanding of the situation. Following Guy's talk and after a short break, you are encouraged to stay for a moderated Etz community dialog where all attendees have the opportunity to be heard and discuss topics of interest. The schedule will be:
10:00 - 11:00 am: Welcome and interactive presentation by Guy Miasnik
11:00 - 11:15 am: Additional Q&A with Guy Miasnik
11:15 - 11:30am: break
11:30 am - 12:30 pm: Etz community dialog moderated by Mark Balch
You are welcome to join in person or via Zoom. Please RSVP either way -- it will guarantee space for all in-person folks and the Zoom information is included with the RSVP confirmation. Everyone is welcome.
