Etznik Talk: First Violin: On Music, Teaching, and Self-Confidence with Leah Lader (Zoom)

Wednesday, July 12, 2023 23 Tammuz 5783

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Leah is an educator, musician, designer, and parent. She received her BS in Industrial Design with a Certificate in Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati. After designing products ranging from women’s footwear to washing machines, she shifted her career and decided to focus on her passion – teaching music to young people. Upon arriving in the Bay Area, Leah taught general music and strings in public elementary schools for the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA). After four years of teaching, Leah took over as the In-School Music Program Manager at CSMA, and led the program for nearly five years. During that time, she began teaching music at Waldorf School of the Peninsula, and now manages the concerts in addition to teaching students from 3rd Grade through High School. Leah has been an active violinist (and sometimes percussionist) in the Redwood Symphony for 15 years, after having been a member of the Cleveland State University, University of Cincinnati Conservatory Sight Reading and the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestras.  She also teaches private violin lessons in Mountain View.  Leah has an incredibly supportive husband, Ananth, and two children, Leela and Anjali, who attend Etz's religious school.  Leah has been teaching at Etz since 2017, and was previously involved through Children's Programming for High Holy Days, Tot Simchat Shabbat, and Friday Night Lights.
