"Entering the Israeli Psyche through Music"

With Nechama Tamler and Tzippi Zach

Wednesday, April 10

Everything is complicated in Israel. Politics is complicated. Religion is complicated. Everything is sensitive, political, emotional. But one cultural phenomenon stands out and unites everybody, and that is music. It is a powerful cultural meeting place.
This session will open with a light-speed overview of a 100 years of Israeli music and its evolution, from folk songs around the campfire to fusion and hip hop and Jewishly-inflected rock. We’ll then get to know some of the most influential names in contemporary Israeli music, and we’ll end by honoring the upcoming Holiday of Pesach and the value of freedom as represented with an in-depth look at two important songs.
